VC Assignment

You are expected to write a one-page paper answering the following question:
"Why is self-control important in a choral class?"

All members of the class are expected to write this paper. It is due to Dr. Woolf or myself at the START of class (8:20) on Monday. This includes minors since you are a part of VC. Consider this blog post your notification.

You are expected to hold each other accountable for this assignment. If you are concerned that one or some of your classmates might not complete this assignment I would encourage you to get in touch with them over the weekend to remind them.

If we do not receive papers from 100% of you by the START of class on Monday we will reconsider you performing on the fall concert.

  • Please...no page protectors
  • Please be prepared.

VC, RC3 & 4 - please continue to practice your vocal scales.  If you don't have a piano piano at home...

Ladies and Gentlemen

The Piano Lab is open for your convenience before and after school daily.  Please feel free to come in and practice with ear phones.

VC: All beginning groups should be prepared to perform "Ode to Joy" for the week of 10/13.
Jessica Crowe played it with her eyes closed this morning.  Maybe you should try it.

Aphids:  I'm still in the process of checking you off.  We will finish in your session during the week of 10/13.

Chamber:  Please continue to practice your individual rep.  Think about this:
EQ:  What are the next steps or strategies for progression on your individual rep?

RC3 and 4:  Please practice sight-reading using our count-singing method and then the sight-singing syllables.  Please practice error detection and audiation.  You will have a pop quiz one day during the week of 10/13 on error detection and audition.
Here are some sites that offer exercises for these skills.

All Classes:

I'm so proud of your answers to today's essential question, "Why do you sing?"  Thanks so much for sharing in class and I look forward to reading your responses.

VC Beginners:  Please practice "Ode to Joy".  We will discuss the piece in class.
Here's the "Ode to Joy" flash mob again just in case you missed it.  During your session this week I will be asking:  "What have you learned about "Ode to Joy"?

Aphids:  You have a check-off performance test this week.

RC3&4:  Think about this:  What you're listening for during audiation?  We will practice various exercises this week.
RC3:  Keep practicing writing key signatures.

Go here to practice error detection.
